GATHERING SONGS “I Will Delight”
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
In Christ's dying and rising, we are reborn; we are no longer dead in our sin.
Let us return to the shepherd and guardian of our souls, confessing our sin.
Silence for reflection and self-examination.
Almighty God,
we confess before you our preference for things that pass away,
our silence in the face of injustice,
our reluctance to accept the freedom of forgiveness.
Make us whole again;
renew in us the grace of baptism;
and set our minds on the things that are above.
“All the prophets testify about Jesus that everyone who believes in him
receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
God, who loves you dearly, forgives you all your sin, raises you to new life in Jesus Christ,
and renews you by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Let us pray. Almighty God, your blessed Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things. Mercifully give us faith to trust that, as he promised, he abides with us on earth to the end of time, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
FIRST READING: Acts 1:1-11
Luke writes: In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.””
SECOND READING: Ephesians 1:15-23
I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
GOSPEL INVITATION “Thy Word”
THE GOSPEL FOR THE DAY: Luke 24:44-53
Jesus said to the eleven and those with them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God.
The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

HYMN OF THE DAY “You Are Mine”
NICENE CREED
In infinite mercy God watched over the people of Israel. In unending love God sent his Son to be our Savior. God delivered us from sin through the waters of Baptism. With joy we proclaim in words and action the faith which makes us God’s own people. . .
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
THE OFFERING AND OFFERING PRAYER
Let us pray.
Everlasting God, the whole universe sings a new song of praise:
the rivers clap their hands, the hills ring out for joy.
As you have raised us to new life in Christ,
give us voices ready to cry out for justice
and proclaim resurrection joy
wherever your Spirit leads us.
In Jesus' name we boldly pray.
Amen.
THE SERVICE OF PRAYERS FOR HEALING
Great God, our healer,
by your power, the Lord Jesus healed the sick and gave hope to the hopeless.
As we gather in his name, look upon us with mercy, and bless us with your healing Spirit.
Bring us comfort in the midst of pain, strength to transform our weakness,
and light to illuminate our darkness.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen
Those who are able, please take hold of the hand of someone near:
As you hear the promise of God’s presence, as you take the hand of God’s people, may God bless you with the healing power of the Holy Spirit. May God forgive you your sins, release you from suffering, and restore you to wholeness and strength. May God deliver you from all evil, preserve you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
NOISY OFFERING
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. AMEN
THANKSGIVING AT THE CONCLUSION OF A CALL
Phil, on April 23rd, 2006, we of Trinity Lutheran Church called you to be pastor in this place: to proclaim God’s word, to baptize and teach, to announce God’s forgiveness, and to preside at the Lord’s Table.
With the gospel you have comforted us in times of sickness and trouble, and at the death of our loved ones. Sharing our joys and sorrows, you and your family have been important to our life together in the church of Jesus Christ, in our service to this community, and in God’s mission to the whole world. As you leave this community of faith, we say farewell, and we pray for God’s blessing.
People of God, members of Trinity Lutheran Church, do you release Phil Wold from service as your pastor?
We do, and we give thanks to God for our ministry together.
Phil, do you recognize and accept the completion of your ministry with Trinity Lutheran Church?
I do, and I give thanks to God for our ministry together.
THANKSGIVING AND SENDING
Let us pray.
Almighty God, through your Son Jesus Christ you gave the holy apostles many
gifts and commanded them to feed your flock.
You equip your people with abilities that differ according to the grace given to
them, and you call them to various avenues of service.
We give you thanks for the ministry of Phil and Laura among the people of
God in this place.
You watch over our going out and our coming in:
bless this time of ending and beginning.
You surround your people in every time and place:
keep us close in your love.
You accompany your people in times of joy and times of trial
prosper all that has been done to your glory in this time together;
heal and forgive all that has fallen short of your will for us.
Help Phil and Laura, Susie and David, and all of us to live with courage and gladness in the future you give to us.
We give you thanks, O God, for opportunities to grow and learn,
and for relationships built through years of connection.
As they now transition to a new phase of rest and play,
direct them in new ways of serving you and one another.
As they have been a blessing to us, so now send them forth to be a blessing to others;
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Rejoicing in the blessings of God in this congregation, with hope in God’s abundant grace in years to come, I announce that Phil’s service as pastor in this congregation is now concluded.
Amen.
BLESSING
The Lord bless you and keep you.
