Trinity Sunday June 12

GATHERING SONGS “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” #413

Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God who gives us a new birth into a living hope, who raises us with Christ from death who fills us with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Let us repent of our sin and claim the promise of God.

Silence is kept for reflection.

Living God, we confess before you and one another our futile ways,

our pursuit of perishable things, our own part in crucifying the Lord Jesus.

Forgive us, O God; renew the face of the earth; and give us the assurance that you have rescued us from the power of sin and made us alive in the Spirit forever. Amen.

Christ suffered for sins once for all in order to bring you to God.

Now you are God's people; now you have received mercy.

In the name of the risen + Lord Jesus

I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.

Lay aside guilt, put away shame,

for you are chosen and precious in God's sight.

Live in the marvelous light of Christ Amen.

Let us pray. Almighty Creator and ever-living God: we worship your glory, eternal Three-in-One, and we praise your power, majestic One-in-Three. Keep us steadfast in this faith, defend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in endless joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

O LORD our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

you whose glory is chanted above the heavens

out of the mouths of infants and children;

you have set up a fortress against your enemies,

to silence the foe and avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,

what are mere mortals that you should be mindful of them,

human beings that you should care for them?

Yet you have made them little less than divine;

with glory and honor you crown them.

You have made them rule over the works of your hands;

you have put all things under their feet:

all flocks and cattle, even the wild beasts of the field,

the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes along the paths of the sea.

O LORD our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

EPISTLE LESSON: Romans 5:1–5

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL: John 16:12–15

The holy gospel according to St. John. Glory to you, O Lord.

I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON SONG “Holy God, We Praise Your Name” #414

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you.

Let us pray. God of all creation, all you have made is good, and your love endures forever. You bring forth bread from the earth and fruit from the vine. Nourish us with these gifts, that we might be for the world signs of your gracious presence in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
