Good Friday

Sheridan Ministerial Association

Community Good Friday Worship Service

Friday, Noon, April 10, 2020

Trusting in the word of life given in baptism, we worship in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross so that he might draw the whole world to himself. Grant that we, who glory in this death for our salvation, may also glory in his call to take up our cross and follow him; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us return to God with all our hearts, confessing our sin and our need for healing. Silence is kept for reflection. Gracious God, you know the depths of our sins against you, each other, and your whole creation; have mercy on us. We pray for forgiveness we cannot earn and renewal we do not merit, given only through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God knows and loves us completely, just as we are. Through water and word, Spirit and saving Son, we are cleansed from sin, joined with the communion of saints, and brought to new and abundant life. In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Live in newness of life. Amen.

Almighty God, look with loving mercy on your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, to be given over to the hands of sinners, and to suffer death on the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and forever. Amen.

GOSPEL READING Saint John 19:30

When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

SERMON Ministerial Asociation Minsters are invited to present a one page sermon on John 19:30

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

As we die and rise with Christ in baptism, may we also live and serve like Christ.

Almighty God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us now and forever. Amen.

Be at peace, Christ is with you. Thanks be to God.
