Ecumenical Good Friday Service
Call to Worship
One: Jesus Christ, by your passion which we remember this day,
Many: Deliver us.
One: By your journey to the top of Golgotha,
Many: Deliver us.
One: By your Spirit lived in God and offered to God,
Many: Deliver us.
One: Jesus Christ, by your cross and resurrection,
Many: Deliver us.
Call to Confession
Jesus said “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” When the weight of the cross bears down upon us, we can always return to the One who carries all of our burdens.
Opening Prayer
We come to you, Merciful God, weighed down by our own sin. We have lifted our own voices in
pursuits of violence and revenge, uttering in our lives, “Crucify! Crucify!” We have betrayed others with
or without thirty pieces of silver, and it has not taken the crow of a rooster to remind us of our own
denials. Forgive us and strengthen us to lay ourselves and our sins at the foot of your cross so that we
might know the rest and the peace you have promised. Amen.
